How to get a Taxi in Seoul

Locating your Seoul taxi couldn’t be easier. You can easily call a radio taxi, wave a taxi down the street or find one at the available taxi ranks outside hotels, bus and subway stations, as well as major touristic spots. Remember that Seoul taxis have red led signs on top of the vehicle standing for ‘available’ taxis with the word 빈차 (bin-cha) which means ’empty’. No matter how you choose to get your Seoul taxi service, you shouldn’t wait more than 10 minutes for your driver to arrive and get you to your next desired location. All you need to do is look for the mainly orange (or sometimes grey) taxis with their roof light on, hold out your hand and wait for the driver to pull over to the side of the road to let you in.

If it’s getting dark, or cold and you wish to get back to your hotel in the city fast, you can call a Seoul taxi to come and pick you up while you wait in comfort. Just give the dispatcher your location and wait a few minutes for a driver to arrive. Although many different companies offer this style of pickup service, one of the most popular ones among tourists is International Taxis, reachable at +82 2 1644 2255.

Seoul Taxi Tips

  1. All taxis in Seoul accept credit, debit and cash payments, as well as Tmoney cards.
  2. Food, drink and smoking are prohibited during your taxi transfer.
  3. Bear in mind that an additional fee may apply when you call for a taxi, as opposed to hailing one off the street.
  4. Seoul taxis come in different colours (orange, blue or yellow - and often black for private vehicles), but they're all easily identifiable by their taxi sign on their roof or the sides of the vehicle.
  5. Νot all Seoul taxi drivers speak English. For your convenience, it's better to write down your destination or use Google Maps and show it to your driver, to avoid any misunderstandings.
