All Chongqing taxi drivers must have an officially calibrated taximeter fitted in their vehicle, which they will use to calculate your fare. There is a time and distance element that will determine the total cost of your journey using the following tariffs:
Base fare (inc first 3 km): €1.40 (CNY 10)
Price per km: €0.30 (CNY 2)
Price per 5 min waiting: €0.15 (CNY 1)
It’s worth noting that at night (23:00 to 06:00), the price per km increases to €0.35 (CNY 2.30). Chongqing taxi drivers also implement an automatic low-speed fare which is €0.15 (CNY 1) for every km covered at speeds less than 12km/h.

Wheelchair Accessible Taxi in Chongqing
Regrettably, China as a whole isn’t a very wheelchair-accessible-friendly country, and Chongqing is no exception. There’s no dedicated wheelchair-accessible Chongqing taxi service and the regular taxis don’t have equipped vehicles either. If you need a fully wheelchair-accessible taxi in Chongqing, you will need to book through an independent tour company before arriving or renting a large car.
Chongqing Taxi Safety and Complaints
Taking a taxi in Chongqing is usually a safe and pleasant experience. The only thing you may want to look out for is your driver not starting the taximeter or your driver taking a long route than needed. You can always ask them to turn the taximeter on if they forget and track the route on a GPS app. If you do experience any issues, you can make an official complaint by calling the local taxi hotline on +86 0239 6096. Be sure to note your driver’s ID number, the taxi number and any details about your journey before calling.
