Ohrid taxi tips

  1. You can hire a taxi in Ohrid to take you around the main sights. To do this, negotiate a set price for the day (half or full) with your driver.
  2. We recommend carrying cash in the local currency – Macedonian Denar. This is because most taxis don’t carry a card machine.
  3. You do not have to tip your taxi driver in Ohrid, but you are free to do so. Rounding up your fare is a kind gesture if you’re happy with the service.

Wheelchair-accessibility taxis in Ohrid

In general, most taxis in Ohrid that you’ll find on the street are not equipped for wheelchair users. They are usually standard four-seater sedans. If you or one of your loved ones have specific accessibility requirements, we recommend booking your transfer in advance with a local tour operator or through a travel agency, so that your needs are accommodated.

Ohrid taxi safety and complaints

North Macedonia as a whole is considered quite a safe country; Ohrid is no different – especially because it’s quite a small city with a warm, neighbourly feel. However, there are incidents of unlicensed taxi drivers in Ohrid, who operate illegally and can take advantage of tourists.

If you have any issues with your taxi in Ohrid, you can contact the local police switchboard at +389 46 262 010. We recommend making a note of the license plate number to further support your complaint.
